Courses Offered at the AYC

Cadet Sailing

For cadets in 2010, we will offer Saturday morning training sessions and Thursday evening club sailing sessions, a 4-day sailing week in early June, and a 5-day sailing week in August.

Powerboat Courses

Our powerboat courses are selected to support volunteers who assist with club sailing events. But they will also appeal to novice powerboaters just starting out.

These are 1- or 2-day courses, held at intervals throughout the year, which involve both classroom and on-the-water training. Because the AYC is located a very short distance from the sea, our courses are held both in the river and at sea and so carry a coastal endorsement. The courses held are:

  • RYA Powerboat Level 2
  • RYA Safety Boat

Adult Sailing

For adults in 2010, we will offer three 6-week blocks of Tuesday evening sail training.

Race Training

In 2010, we will offer specialist race training for competent sailors looking to improve their race performance

Theory Courses

Shorebased theory courses keep the learning going when sailing is not possible and provide sailors with fresh ideas and the knowledge to excel on the water. We offer a range of courses to support the cruising sailor.

If the courses you're interested in is not available, please contact the Office to express your interest.

  • RYA Day Skipper Theory
  • Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore - Theory
  • RYA Diesel Maintenance
  • Marine Radio Short Range Certificate
  • RYA Radar
  • RYA First Aid
  • RYA Sea Survival

Race Officer

As a sailing club, we're keen to develop the support teams that we need to organize and run regattas.

The RYA Club Race Officer courses is the starting point for club race officers. If you're interested in completing this course, please contact the Office to express your interest.
