The AYC is launching a new fundraising lottery called Club 200. It is designed to fund small, prespecified projects in the Club over a 6-month period and every month will award nine prizes ranging from £100 to £25. If less than the 200 tickets are sold, the prizes will be scaled back proportionately, but your chances of winning will improve!! Each ticket will cost £25 and is valid for 6 months.
Click here for a flyer giving details of a new fund raising initiative which it's hoped you will all support.
If you wish to find out more please call Paul Hughes on 07770 850462 or turn up on Saturday. Remember if you use club boats they don’t mend or maintain themselves, we need your help to look after them so that they are available for existing and new members to use.
Also, just to start getting you into panic mode, there are only six weeks to Crane-In!! If you haven't even started preparing your boat yet, time is starting to get short.

AYC Website – Crew Available and Wanted Page (by Nick Clare)
Dear All,
I have been requested to produce a new web page for the club’s website that will make available the details of those members wishing to crew and those requiring crew.
In view of this, please would all members who would like to make themselves available for crew let me have their details for publication, as follows:
Name, gender and a rough idea of age if you don’t want to be too accurate. A brief description of your experience and qualifications, if any. Don’t worry if you don’t any or much experience – many boat owners welcome beginners and as a club we would encourage new sailors to take part. Contact details – I realise that many would not want their mobile/home number or emails published on the website. If you don’t mind these being made public then let me have them but, if not, we can arrange for contact to be made through the club, although this may slow down the contact process. When you will be available to sail? Do you just want to sail on weekends, or would you be available for extended cruises or weeks/ months throughout the year?. Would you be willing to travel to other parts of the country or Europe to join/leave ship? What type of sailing do you think you would enjoy the most, such as cruising, yacht racing, dinghy sailing and racing or motorboating. Would you like to join a crew for one of Barry’s cruises or perhaps become a member of a race team. The more information you give, the better idea that the skipper understand of your suitability. (On my boat you need to be able to cook!)Please send all information to me at nick@clare.org.uk
I look forward to hearing from you. Nick Clare
Yacht Charter in Scandinavia
We've received the following which I am reproducing below in case it may be of interest:I used to be a member of the Arun Yacht Club as a junior (with lots of happy memories from Junior Week!) in fact, my Dad (Martin Adams) was once Commodore. I now live in Malmö, Sweden with my Swedish husband and we are both still very passionate about sailing. We have recently started a yacht hire business in the Öresund region and would love to offer a special discount for weekend or one/two week yacht hire to all members of the Arun Yacht Club. The beauty of sailing in the Öresund is that there are no tides, and you can cover both the Danish and Swedish coastlines in one weekend. Whether sailing with friends or family those onboard can moor up in the heart of Copenhagen and enjoy the buzz of the Danish capital city or relax on one of the white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters of the Swedish Southern coast. Over a one or two week boat rental sailors can cover Sweden, Denmark and Germany coastlines! It is such an exciting sailing area to explore! Our boats are moored in Malmö, Sweden which is a mere 20 minutes from Copenhagen airport which is easily reached from London Gatwick Airport by Easyjet (1.5 hours flight). If any of your members are interested in discovering a new sailing area they can contact us directly via e-mail and my husband or I would be happy to discuss itinerary ideas, provide more information about the boat, prices and how to get here, They can also visit out website www.bavaria37charter.se for more information. Many thanks! - Niki Brantmark - Scandinavian Yacht Charter

RNLI Training
On behalf of the RNLI, Nick White has asked me to circulate the following:
The RNLI College at Poole is opening it's doors to the boating community, to allow people the opportunity to come along and experience a taster of our crew training, and pick up some valuable skills as well. The Nautical Skills weekend takes place over the 4-5th February 2012.
We currently have an 'early-bird' price of £275 per person, if booked before 31 December 2011, after this date the standard cost is £325 per person.
Please see the flier, which can be accessed by clicking here, for further information about the weekend.
We appreciate that many of you may be involved in local sailing/yachting clubs, or other organisations who may be interested in this event. It would be fantastic if you could pass this on to anyone who may be interested in a Christmas present with a difference or something to help prepare for the new boating season next year.
We would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas, and a prosperous new year!!

Project Kraken
Defending our shores - the Police would like you help - have you seen anything suspicious? Do you want to find out more about what the police are doing in our area to combat serious crimes such as Drug and People Smuggling? If so, have a look at the Project Kraken website at:
http://www.sussex.police.uk/advice-and-support/project-kraken---protecting-the-waters-of-sussex
Meanwhile, the officers at Project Kraken have asked us to forward this:
The 2012 Olympic Games will attract many visitors to the UK some of whom are likely to be travelling across the Channel in small pleasure craft. Sussex and the Solent area support the largest marinas in the country and with a limited number of marina berths available this increased volume of small boats potentially presents an ideal opportunity for terrorists and criminals alike to exploit the projected huge increase in essentially unknown small boat traffic across the Solent area.
We and our colleagues in other police Project Kraken schemes are here to ensure that the 2012 games pass off as smoothly and as enjoyably as possible for you the boating public and are therefore asking; whether you are a marina operator, in the marine industry or indeed an individual boat user to be especially vigilant and report any suspicious booking requests or any other activity you deem to be suspicious in the run up to the Olympics . The preparation period for the Games is particularly important so please ensure that you ask your customers or friends on the continent who intend to visit the Solent area to plan ahead well in advance.
As we approach 2012 the Sussex Police Project Kraken website will aim to provide you with as much information as possible regarding Olympic sailing events so please continue to visit your website for updates. A Project Kraken 2012 Olympics poster is available for you to download and display using the link below. Please print off copies of the Olympics poster at your discretion. For your information and for the sake of clarity the non emergency contact number of 101 as displayed on the poster is currently being trialed by Sussex Police prior to it being released nationally as a generic Police non emergency contact number. Either the 101 number or the current 0845 60 70 999 can be used presently.
Project Kraken in Sussex is thriving and we continue to strive to supply as much information as possible concerning marine crime issues to you the boating public. Membership is rising steadily and your help and information in solving recent cross county marine crime in particular has been invaluable. We are however anxious to enrol many more of you who are employed in the marine industry, individual boat owners, users and indeed coastal residents. Please include the links below on your individual websites and encourage your members, customers, berth-holders, friends and colleagues to join Project Kraken using the simple on-line instructions on the main web page. Help us keep the 2012 Olympics safe and enjoyable for all.
Thank you and if I can be of assistance please do not hesitate to contact me on 0845 60 70 999 Extension 80611 or 07810 757277. Tony Bevel, Sussex Police Project Kraken.
Marine Watch
As there seems to be an increase on boat thefts from within the harbour, members are strongly recommended, wherever possible, to remove their outboard engines and store them below deck or, if that's not practicable, to add a chain and secure padlock between the boat and its mooring so that it is more difficult for a thief to simply cast off and spirit your boat away.
